MAHE Land Acknowledgement
The Manitoba Association of Home Economists acknowledges that our members live and work throughout Manitoba, on the ancestral and traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, Anisininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Denesuline, Nehethowuk, and Inuit, and within the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
We honour these lands, the waters, and all our relations who have cared for them since time immemorial.
These lands are covered by the Treaties, including Treaties 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, which are sacred agreements rooted in peace, respect, and sharing.
In the spirit of Home Economics – which centers the well-being of individuals, families, and communities – we recognize the historical and ongoing impacts of colonization on Indigenous Peoples. These impacts continue to affect the health, wellness, and balance of families and communities today.
We commit to supporting reconciliation in Manitoba by listening, learning, and taking meaningful action. This includes respectfully incorporating Indigenous perspectives on sustainability, resource stewardship, and community care into our work and relationships.
As an association and individuals, we accept the responsibility to walk forward in a good way – guided by respect, understanding, and a shared commitment to truth and reconciliation for present and future generations.
